Writing soundtrack
I'm desperately lacking good music to write to. Everything I listen to normally is so distracting! Anyone have any good suggestions (especially fantasy inspired)?

I don't do music when I write, but I would suggest instrumental. That way you don't have to pay attention to it.

Re: Writing soundtrack
These are my favorite fantasy-esque Youtube artists (or artists with Youtube channels):
Adrian Von Ziegler
BrunuhVille
Denny Schneidemesser
Erutan
Taryn Harbridge
A lot of celtic music, fantasy inspired. Mostly instrumental (except for Erutan) so words don't distract.

Re: Writing soundtrack
When it comes to writing moments of heart-wrenching romances, I tend to listen to songs like Do You Remember by Jarryd James.
When I'm writing dramatic/sad moments, I listen to cello music.
Duel by Bond is a particular favourite of mine when writing epic battles. The songs Explosive and Victory by Bond are also good for these battles. But general suspenseful instrumental music is good too.
Otherwise, for general writing, I listen to classical music or mellow-ish music with words in another language (so that I can't be distracted by the lyrics). I like the 5 hr Bach youtube video. I also like Bond (they're mostly instrumental but more upbeat).
When I need motivation to continue writing/revising (even though the lyrics don't relate to this whatsoever), I listen to Keep Your Head Down by TVXQ (they're a K-pop band and their dance moves are really good). This song was also good when I was studying...
None of these suggestions are really fantasy inspired, more like what's appropriate for the mood of the scene. But I rarely switch from my 5 hr Bach youtube video to another playlist unless I feel I really need to (it tends to break the flow of writing otherwise).
I'm slowly going through Call Me Nefret's suggestions, and I'm thinking of expanding my play lists to include them

Re: Writing soundtrack
These are all awesome suggestions!
I am going to check out all of those Nefret - I can't believe I never thought about celtic music. Such a good idea. I used to listen to classical music but sometimes I would find myself getting bored while writing, so I need something just interesting enough that I feel inspired and not antsy. I especially love Denny Schneidemesser and Erutan ... actually scratch that, I love ALL of your recommendations (since I just listened to them haha).
Although I actually like the idea of a 5 hour Bach video is a good idea as well, since I hate having to keep switching songs/etc. That way I can just let it play... And when it finally stops I know I've earned my break LOL! But thanks also for the suggestions on scene music. Sometimes you just need something inspiring to help you along! (also omg I LOVE TVXQ XD probably not content appropriate but good for editing motivation for sure! I can't watch their videos or I'll be too distracted ....... lol!)
Finally, I never even considered this before but I think I might also try to write without music at all. Sometimes when I've been writing a long time, I think music becomes a serious distraction.

There are a lot of two hour looped celtic music videos as well. They're perfect for studying or writing.
Although I also cultivate my own personal instrumental playlist.

Re: Writing soundtrack
If I am listening to music the music I am listening to depends on what I am writing and if I need a certain mood.
Game soundtracks: Dragon Age, Assassins Creed, The Witcher, Ori and the Blind Forest and The Elder Scrolls (skyrim/oblivion/online)
Youtube: Those long lists with movie soundtracks, Two steps from hell and other epic music
I also like Celtic music and pagan music. Faun songs for a certain mood. And Wardruna and Einar Selvik (he is partly responsible for the Vikings soundtrack as well. His music just takes you to another place) for a certain place I am writing about.
As for classical music. I really like Nocturnes by Chopin performed by Brigitte Engerer

Re: Writing soundtrack
I also like Vivaldi's 'Winter" for more dramatic moments (especially the part with the running 16th notes on the violin. It's like an avalanche in music form)
Debussy's "Reverie" for the sweeter, softer moments.
Ludovico Einaudi's "Stella Del Mattino" for the "happily ever after" moments at the end of the story.
Oh, I can't believe I forgot Two Steps from Hell. "Dragon Rider" is great for battle scenes. Really anything in the epic genre is useful. It's like the songs from action/fantasy movie soundtracks, just without the movie.

Re: Writing soundtrack
For a Dark And Stormy Night, I recommend the Storm section from Britten's Four Sea Interludes.
Wagner also has some orchestral pieces that come either in Gloomy Doom flavour or in The Brass Section Is Really Giving It All. I tend to listen to Wagner when I'm ironing. Much more epic.
Nox Arcana has thematic, mostly instrumental albums, like Necronomicon, Transsylvania or Phantoms of the High Seas. The latter reminds me a lot of PotC's soundtrack.
And then there is maestro Morricone and his wonderful soundtracks.

I just want to say that I love the fact that you iron to epic music. A good soundtrack makes doing chores around the house much easier XD
I'll check out all of the suggestions so far
